The history of our restaurant

Our predecessor, the Schódli Café, had already registered itself as the Museum Café in 1885 and as is the custom in Budapest cafés, the names of our prominent clientele are entered in the guest book – including Members of Parliament, writers, and actors – in a setting which reflects our unique architectural heritage. The walls are covered in tiles from the world-famous Zsolnay porcelain works. The unique hand-carved wood paneling is under the protection of the Preservation Trust. The jewel of the piano room is a painted ceiling by Károly Lotz, entitled Csikosverseny. Another unique feature is an original 19th century Venetian mirror.

We are awaiting you in our restaurant with a menu in your language, live piano music every night, wine and spirit selections, and a time travelling in the history of hungarian cusine.

Our place in the Hungarian hospitality industry

We proudly represent our past: the traditional Hungarian kitchen. However, while we honor our past, we continue to update our menu, utilizing the freshest ingredients that are at the heart of a healthful diet.

We offer the values of Hungarian gastronomy that have withstood the test of time, while employing the most modern technology to ensure the continuation of quality – Tradition meets the present.

Through the praise of our numerous regular guests we have earned the recognition of prestigious publications, including Gault Millau, for our hospitality.

Our specialties –goose liver varieties

For many decades now, goose liver has been an essential part of our menu selection.

We are adapring and fine tuning our menu in every season, and do care about your diet and special requests. Are you vegetarian, fish or meat lover? You’ll find your favourite dish in our house with a small twist in your favour.
