The history of our restaurant
Our predecessor, the Schódli Café, had already registered itself as the Museum Café in 1885 and as is the custom in Budapest cafés, the names of our prominent clientele are entered in the guest book – including Members of Parliament, writers, and actors – in a setting which reflects our unique architectural heritage. The walls are covered in tiles from the world-famous Zsolnay porcelain works. The unique hand-carved wood paneling is under the protection of the Preservation Trust. The jewel of the piano room is a painted ceiling by Károly Lotz, entitled Csikosverseny. Another unique feature is an original 19th century Venetian mirror.
We are awaiting you in our restaurant with a menu in your language, live piano music every night, wine and spirit selections, and a time travelling in the history of hungarian cusine.
